Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 July 2026
Scene Skipper ("the app," "we," "us") helps parents build and share
scene-skip lists for movies and shows. This policy explains what we
collect, why, where it lives, and how to have it deleted. We aim to
collect as little as possible.
What we collect
We only collect what the app actually stores. Specifically:
Account information
When you create an account, we store:
- Username — chosen by you; shown as the author of any lists you publish.
- Email address — used to sign in and to contact you about your
account. We will never sell your email address, and we never share it with
anyone except the service providers that host our infrastructure and deliver
our emails (see "Sharing" below) — never for marketing by us or anyone else.
- Password — stored only as a bcrypt hash (cost 12).
We never store or can see your actual password.
- Account creation date.
Content you create
- Scene-skip lists you publish to the community — the movie/show
title, the streaming service, your version notes, and the individual scenes
(start time, end time, skip/mute type, and any comment you add). Published
lists are associated with your username and are visible to other users. A
per-list download count is kept.
- Timestamp requests — if you ask the community to build a list,
we store the title, service, and any note you include, associated with your
account.
- Cloud backup of your local lists — if you use Backup & Restore,
we store a snapshot of the scene lists you keep on your own device so you can
restore them. This is stored per account and overwritten with your latest
snapshot.
Purchase / license information
- License code and platform (e.g. iOS) generated after a purchase.
- A store purchase token associated with your purchase, used to tie a
license to the account that bought it.
- A companion device identifier (an Android device ID from the TV
companion app) recorded when you activate a license, so a license activates
on one TV.
- Activation date.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your viewing history or track what you watch.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- The parental PIN and your TV connection details never leave your
devices — the PIN is held in your phone's OS keychain and, on the TV, only as
a hash. They are not sent to our servers.
- We do not sell personal information.
How we use it
- To let you sign in and use your account.
- To publish, display, and let others import the lists you choose to publish.
- To restore your local lists when you ask us to.
- To issue and validate purchase licenses.
- To secure the service (e.g. rate limiting and abuse prevention).
Where it lives
Account data, published lists, requests, licenses, and backups are stored in a
PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway, located in the
United States. Sign-in uses a token (JWT) that expires after 7 days;
after that you sign in again.
Sharing
We do not share your personal information with third parties except:
- Content you choose to publish is, by design, visible to other Scene
Skipper users (shown with your username).
- Service providers who host our infrastructure (Railway) and process
app purchases (the Apple App Store / Google Play), only as needed to run the
service.
- When required by law.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can request that we delete
your account and associated personal data at any time.
On an account-deletion request we remove your account record, your cloud backup,
and disassociate any lists you published (or remove them on request). Some
published community content may be retained in de-identified form (no link to
your account) so that lists other users have imported continue to work.
Children's privacy
Scene Skipper is a tool for parents. Accounts are intended for adults.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a
child has created an account, contact us at the address above and we will delete it.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA basics)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete
your personal data, and to request a copy of it. To exercise any of these, email
the address above. We do not sell personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected
by an updated date at the top and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
